Weekend Update

The weekend was good. But the week leading up to it was….off. Stars out of alignment, bad juju in the air, the Universe had PMS….I don’t know. But suffice it to say, here we are at Monday and everything has shaken out and life is good again.

Saturday was muey productive. Shipped mom and dad’s Christmas box home, went grocery shopping as Kim-n-Tim were coming over for dinner, vacuumed the upstairs (utter joy!) and helped TBBE hang the Christmas lights.

And here’s my I-am-woman-hear-me-roar story. We don’t have an exend-o ladder. Just a regular ol’ five foot ladder. You know I’m not good with measuring and math and all that, so when Todd said he was going to put lights up on the house, I envisioned the lights going up along the roof, which included the point above the front door and porch.

But the five foot ladder wouldn’t reach the point, even with a 6’4” tall guy on top of it.

Well. This would never do. The vision has been created, and you know I cannot deviate from the vision. If we couldn’t do the point, then I didn’t want lights on the house at all. I even walked down to the neighbor’s house because I saw an extend-o ladder in their carport (taunting me!) and no, I didn’t know them, but dammit, I wanted lights on the point!

The neighbors weren’t home. And their very large great dane was not happy that I woke him up.

Then there was talk of getting on the roof. Sure, Todd could get on the roof. He’s done it before. But Todd is a big man and if he falls, it’s going to hurt a lot more than if I fall. And I’m the one with the health insurance, so…..

Up on the roof I go! Because I wanted the lights on the point! And you know what? Roofs in Seattle are a bit more slanted than the roofs in Houston. And they have moss. I used to get up on the roof every year with Dad and hang lights. Well, he hung lights. I watched and generally just felt cool being up on the roof.

Roof is a funny word when you type it a lot.

Anyway, up on the roof I go. Trying to squeeze the staple gun was the hardest part of the process. That and leaning over the edge to make sure I was stapling them in a straight line. Cause you know Rae-rae – if they’re not in a straight line, what’s the point?

But all ends well! I survived the roof and the lights are in a straight line. For the most part. Now we just need to do the long side of the front and maybe, if we have enough lights, along the carport.

Sorry we slacked on taking pics.
But please enjoy TBBE’s rendering of the event.

That evening, Kim-n-Tim came over for some of my delicious veggie enchiladas. Milo stayed at home to chill with Grandma and Tyler and his buddy were holed up in his room, so we had some nice adult conversations, followed by a game of Apples to Apples. It was good to hang out with them for an extended period of time. And they had only met Todd at Milo’s birthday party back in June, so Saturday, everyone really had a chance to get to know each other.

That night, upon getting ready for bed, I made the mistake of taking two Benadryl. Elvis had been lovin’ on me and I had some itchy patches on my neck from him.

Well, just a warning. Two Benadryl is one too many. Knocked my ass out. At 10:30 Sunday morning, Todd came in to wake me and tell me he had made pancakes and I was still at the drooling stage of my slumber. Knocked.Out.

I finally got up and made it to the table for breakfast, but I was in a sleepy haze and barely remember eating at all. After breakfast, and checking my email, I laid on the couch and dozed alittle more. But we had a holiday open house that afternoon so I had to bring myself around sooner rather than later.

The open house was lovely. Yummy food and a great lesson on making turtles. The candy. Not the reptile. And funny thing – the host is a friend of Todd’s and a reader of our blogs. She and I have emailed about books and West Seattle, but I’d never met her before. This blogging is a funny thing.

And after the open house, back into the jammies just in time to watch the Seahawks completely screw themselves out of a win against the Patriots. They were winning!! The whole game, they were winning!! And the fumbled. Patriots won. Ack.

Then came home made pizza for dinner, followed by a couple episodes of Buffy, all the while doing laundry, followed by Sunday night animation. And at 9:30, bed. Blah.

Whew!
More info than you ever wanted to know about my weekend, huh?

Random Thoughts

I can't remember what I'm doing when I walk in the kitchen sometimes, but I can remember random Spanish words, like most of the months (Abril, Septiembre, Octubre, Noviembre, Diciembre - apparently I can even remember how to spell them), frio (cold) and imposible (impossible).

Weird.

**********

We have officially hit winter in Seattle. The high is supposed to be 62 today and it's rained for the past five days. Fine with me. It's more fun to watch football when it's cold. And you don't sweat when you cuddle.

**********

Had din din with Jamie last night. We've gotten into the habit of making a once a week dinner date. I love that. We went to La Carta de Oaxaca, an authentic, yet overhyped, Mexican joint. The food is okay, I guess, but there's always this long line of people out the door trying to get in. My theory is that one person (probably from Fremont - MeOw!) deemed it "trendy" and suddenly everyone and their freakin' brother has to go there, thus making Ballard just as crowded and frustrating as Fremont. West Seattle ain't lookin' so bad these days.

**********

Have I given you an update on the mouthguard situation? No? Well!

I used my whitening tray for a few nights and that helped the pain in the tooth, but rubbed the roof of my mouth raw. Poo. So, I sucked it up and spent $18 on an official NightGuard. Which was a complete joke. With Kayleigh's assistance, we boiled this thing according to the directions, then I put it in my mouth and bit down so that my teeth would make an impression and it would fit snuggly.

Crock o' shit.

Either it's a complete rip off or my jaws are just not strong enough to bite down as far as I need to. Regardless, my teeth only left a tiny little dent in the tray. So I'll send it back. Because there's a little "Satisfaction Guaranteed" note on the side of the box. And I am not satisfied.

And my tooth still hurts.

**********

Red meat is no longer my friend. We were never really buds. Merely acquaintances. But after the pirate party in CA and me treating myself to a big ol' chunk of it, well, red meat is no longer my friend.

It was somewhat entertaining though when, after I took a big bite of said red meat and "juice" (let's just say "juice"....red "juice") dripped down onto my chest (not boobs....just chest), I got to act out a little vampire victim scenario for Todd's friends, with his help. Maybe that could also be considered an audition? Cause, ya know, I'm datin' a director.

**********

I'm freezing right now.
If my fingernails weren't painted red (hussy red!) then they would be blue.
I want my sweatshirt.

(This is not a haiku.)

**********

Apparently homecoming season is upon us!

The majority my blog hits are coming from a google search for "homecoming mums". The gals are getting excited about what their boys are going to get for them! Or maybe it's the boys who are googling so they know what the gals want?

Maybe Todd and I should go to the West Seattle High homecoming football game. And he can buy me a mum and I'll buy him a garter. And maybe I'll get a pimple right on the end of my nose. Just like high school! Ah, to relive my youth!

Excuse me while I throw up........

At least I'd get to make out with a boy after the game.

**********

Sigh.

That's all I got.

Whee.

Somewhat of an Update

There's nothing too interesting to share right now. But it's been a busy week, nonetheless.

Monday, Jessica stayed over, which meant dinner out. Never a bad thing.
Tuesday, walking Greenlake with Rachelle and then dinner with Shaun.
Wednesday, There Will Be Blood* with McP and his roommate.
Thursday, Jamie's birthday! So, dinner and drinks.
Today, death.

Because I got a wild hair and had pork shoulder (who knew?) at dinner last night and oh gawd, my stomach is not at all happy about this. My muscles are actually sore from trying to move this shit along (no pun intended). Lesson learned. I don't do red meat. Unless it's bacon. But is bacon really red meat? It's mostly fat, right? So, apparently, my body is fine with eating straight fat, but it has a slight problem with actual meat.

Well, okay fine.

Tonight was supposed to be a work happy hour, but I just want to go home and fall asleep on the couch. Much like last night.

*Now, about this movie. I am not a Daniel Day Lewis fan. And I take a lot of crap for this. The Sheauns try to tell me he's most likely the best actor of our time, I MUST see In The Name Of The Father, blah blah blah. Don't care. Still don't like him. He's just a little too intense for me. But I went to this movie because 1) it was only $3, 2) McP is going out of town for a while and I wanted to see him before he left and 3) I thought I should see at least one Oscar nominated movie.

And it was just okay. I didn't get the hugeness of it all. I kept waiting for the big crux and I don't feel like it ever came. Even McP thought it didn't live up to the hype.

But oh, the best part of the movie? When DDL gets slapped around by a preacher kid. I thoroughly enjoyed that.

Weekend Update

Well, I caucused Saturday. Not too difficult at all. I went in, found my precinct, realized it was the wrong precinct because they had my old address, found the new precinct, wrote The Name, filled out a change of address form and left. I know that after I left, people were divided into groups and there was a lot of discussion and people tried to pursuade people, and that's where politics lose me. I did my part. I may not have gotten the full experience, but at least I went. So there.

Then I went all the way down to Covington for a party. Hung out there until about 5pm, then came all the way back to Seattle to have dinner with the Sheauns and see "Into the Wild". Good movie. Long movie. But a good movie.

And then home and into the jammies.

Sunday, I slept until 11:30am. I'm not sure why. I blame the drive to Covington.

I made breakfast, talked to mom and dad for an hour, watched "Sleepless in Seattle". I finally got motivated around 5pm when Jamie emailed and mentioned she was trying to think of something for dinner. I immediately called her and said "I need a reason to leave the house. Let's go eat." She's good for impromptu plans like that.

Then back home and back into the jammies. It was dark and windy all day so it was a good curl-up-and-watch-tv day. Not a thrilling weekend, but that's okay. It was nice.

And here we are at Monday. If I can just get through this week, I will be rewarded with Monday off! Presidents' Day! Whatever shall I do on this long weekend?

Grocery Shopping

I finally went grocery shopping last night. First time since I moved in.

I had stopped by the store occasionally and spent $20 here and $30 there, but I still hadn't done a Big Shopping Trip. I had no sugar, no soy patties, no pasta, no veggie broth, no staples. But ooh boy am I stocked up now. I won't have to buy food again for a month or more. Now, if I want to actually cook dinner for someone, I'll have to go get fresh veggies. I didn't buy any because I didn't want them to go to waste, and they would have because I'm not really eating anything in the evenings.

Except last night.

I was so excited to have my pick for dinner, that I asserted my independence and had tortilla chips with chilie con caso. That's it. And it was yummy.

I'm having dinner with Shaun tonight so there will be an actual meal. That will get me back on the right track.

The First Supper

Tonight, I made dinner for the first time in my new apartment. Tortellini and a salad and a chocolate/espresso tort to top it off. Well, just a couple of bites of the tort. But all of the espresso mousse on the top. So yummy. And I bought "A Bug's Life" this afternoon so I watched that.

Cyn is supposed to call if she and her gal friend head to Ballard, but I think I'm in for the night. I'm pooped, and looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow.

In my b i g, f l u f f y, n e w bed........
