Sorry I didn't post this yesterday. I suck (as do the Seahawks but we don't even need to talk about that).
Mom called. Their power only stayed on for about an hour on Saturday, so they are again suffering in the heat. She said the roof is going to need to be replaced. There's a couple of "gaping holes". They got out and tried to clean up the yard a little, but it was harder work than they anticipated and, as of 5pm Houston time yesterday, mom was sore and tired and dad was drunk. He'd had enough.
They can pop over to their neighbors' occasionally to get some relief from the heat and charge their cell phone batteries, so that's comforting. I've already tried looking up plane tickets to go there, but from what I gather, they're not letting people in until Wednesday. It's times like these it's so hard to be so far away from them.

Oh no! I can't believe electricity came back then left again. Hope they have plenty of "supplies" (water, etc.).
Sweetie, I say this in all seriousness: I think your dad has the right idea. Everyone get good and sauced until electricity's back, everyone is showered and rested, and life is returning to relative normal. THEN tackle the yard and the roof.
