So, while my scallops are thawing and my chardonnay is chilling, I will tell you about one of my current stresses.
I'm stressing about the coin op laundry at my new apartment. There's one washer and dryer for a building of 7 apartments and we're each assigned our own day. My apartment's day is Friday.
Friday.
When the hell am I supposed to do laundry on a Friday? There's work, then happy hour, maybe even a date eventually! The manager tells me I can try and switch days with someone, but that seems like a lot of work.
So I'm actually thinking about......
(my mother is going to lose it)
.......wash-n-fold laundry!
There's a new place that's recently opened in Fremont (conveniently on my way to and from work) that's a drop off, wash-n-fold place. It's all very New York.
I used to tease Julie when she would tell me she couldn't remember the last time she did laundry. They always just sent it out. And I believe she said the same thing in Chicago when I mentioned what a pain in the ass it was going to be not having a washer and dryer - "Oh, just send it out!" Come on! I'm a down-to-earth Seattle chick. We don't send our laundry "out"! We scrounge around for quarters, then meet hot men in the laundry room as we fold our delicates. Hmph, send it out.....
But now....
It don't seem like such a bad idea. There's someone willing to do it while I slave away at work all day? It's almost like having an unemployed boyfriend again. Except I'm paying him for his services. Which, technically, makes him a prostitute. Which I'm fine with if my clothes are getting clean and I don't have to stay home on a Friday night to do it.
Maybe there's even a place in Ballard.....?

Hey! I used to do that when I lived in Fremont (St James Apartments). The Laundry was right beside the Futon store on Lake Union. I really loved her - I traveled a lot and didn't have time to do it myself and it seemed like once I paid for it, it cost the same as doing it myself (except that it smelled better, was cleaner, and I didn't have to deal with the "laundry people.") Either that OR....The Honey Bear in Greenlake is a GREAT place to meet people and they have a Laundry next door. I have met many "dinners," there....
Here's my unsolicited advice. Find a good wash-n-fold laundry, but at the same time (and to save you a but of money) on Friday morning before you go to work, put in a load of stuff that you don't care if it sits there a bit wet while you are working (old t-shirts, underpants, etc.) Then throw them into the dryer when you get home from work (or home from going out after work). So, what if it stays in the dryer till Saturday morning. Saturday tenant can deal with taking your stuff out and putting it on top of the dryer. You got the crap day, so you deserve a break.
Wash-n-Fold laundry is the best invention ever for busy lives and for those who have assigned laundry days!! I have never heard of such a thing. Or just go out and buy more clothes when you run out of clean ones!!!
